Steps for proper disposal of oil filters
Drain residual oil:
After removing the used oil filter from the car, place the filter with the hole facing down on a container to catch the oil.
Allow the residual oil to drain out as much as possible (it may take several hours, it is recommended to leave it overnight).
Properly pack the oil filter:
Place the drained oil filter in a sealed plastic bag or a leak-proof container.
Clearly label the bag or container as "Used Oil Filter".
Dispose of it at a designated disposal point:
Check for used oil filter collection points in your area (e.g., gas stations, auto parts stores, recycling centers).
Bring the properly packed oil filter to the collection point.
Used engine oil:
It is recommended to send it to the used oil collection point. It is not recommended to dispose of it down the drain, which will severely damage the environment and is illegal.
Precautions
Do not dispose of used oil filters in general trash cans: Used oil filters are hazardous waste that must be disposed of properly. If disposed of in general trash cans, it may cause contamination of soil and water.
Do not burn oil filters: Burning oil filters will release toxic fumes from the filter paper, which will be harmful to health and the environment.
Do not dispose of oil filters in drains or water sources: Disposing of them in drains or water sources will cause water pollution and affect aquatic life.
Why is it important to dispose of oil filters properly?
Environmental protection: The residual oil in the filter contains toxic substances that are harmful to the soil, water, and air. Proper disposal helps prevent contamination from these toxins.
Health preservation: Toxic substances from engine oil can have adverse effects on human health. Proper disposal helps reduce the risk of exposure to toxic substances.
Promote recycling: Some types of oil filters can be recycled. Proper disposal helps promote the reuse of materials.
